The start-up Sunthetics, New York, NY/USA, is developing manufacturing equipment for the main precursor of polyamide 6.6 (PA 6.6), adiponitrile (AND), which uses 30% less raw material and energy, and is powered by electricity rather than heated.
Founded in 2018, Sunthetics plans to sell and license the manufacturing equipment to current and future producers. In the long-term, Sunthetics will develop electrochemical manufacturing equipment for a variety of other industries and applications, including upcycling waste streams.
The start-up raised over US$ 400,000 in non-dilutive funding and won 5 start-up competitions, including the NYU Entrepreneurship Challenge, the University Startup World Cup and the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards.
The startup was presented at the 1st Startup-Days of the 58th Dornbirn Global Fiber Congress (Dornbirn GFC) in Dornbirn/Austria from September 11-12, 2019.
