The fiber producer Invista S.a.r.l., Wichita, KS/USA, owner of elastane (spandex) fiber brand Lycra, is celebrating the 60th anniversary of Lycra fiber. Dr. Joseph C. Shivers invented the elastane fibers in 1958.

Now, 60 years later, Dr. Shivers is being recognized for his invention by the National Inventors Hall of Fame, where he was posthumously inducted into the Class of 2018. The gala ceremony took place on May 3, 2018 in Washington, DC/USA.

What began 6 decades ago as a single elastic fiber renowned for its ability to stretch and snap back to its original shape, even after numerous washes, has evolved into a portfolio of over 200 differentiated fibers. This fiber meets a wide variety of consumer needs and adds lasting performance to textiles.
