Composites Market Survey with positive expectations

22.02.2021 In the last survey of the composites market, there was an extremely negative assessment of the prevailing business situation. The latest survey is looking considerably brighter now. A highly positive trend is emerging for all 3 regions surveyed (worldwide, Europe and Germany). Whereas in last year’s survey an average of 85% described the prevailing business situation as either negative or even very negative, the most recent survey shows that, on average, 50% of all respondents are currently seeing the situation as fairly positive or very positive.

For the 16th time, the trade association Composites Germany e.V., Berlin/Germany, has released current key performance indicators (KPI) for the fiber-reinforced plastics market. The survey covered all the member companies of the 3 biggest umbrella organizations of Composites Germany: Industrievereinigung Verstärkte Kunststoffe e.V. (AVK), Frankfurt/Germany, Composite United e.V., Berlin; and the VDMA Working Group on Hybrid Lightweight Construction Technologies, Frankfurt.
Despite the ongoing corona pandemic with its numerous challenges, as well as additional negative variables such as Brexit, the mood among respondents has noticeably improved. The decisive factor was probably the situation in the 2nd half of 2020, when the economic slump was less severe than originally feared. Trade and industry have been impacted by restrictions to very different degrees.
A consistently positive picture emerges when respondents are asked about their expectations for future business developments. For all 3 regions surveyed, the respondents’ expectations on the future business situation are considerably more positive and have even reached their highest values since these surveys were started.
