Technologies for cement packaging and plastics recycling

Starlinger

Block bottom valve bags and post-consumer plastics recycling are the 2 main topics that the producer of machinery and complete lines for woven plastic bag production Starlinger & Co. Ges.m.b.H., Vienna/Austria, will focus on at the international exhibition on plastics and rubber industries Chinaplas in Shenzen/China from April 13-16, 2021.

By March 2022 Chinese cement producers are required by law to switch their packaging to one of the 3 specified cement sack types. The block bottom valve sacks AD*Star are made of laminated polypropylene (PP) tape fabric using a specially developed welding process. The plastic fabric is extremely durable and break-resistant and protects the content from moisture. This makes them a very sustainable cement packaging solution because they help to reduce CO2 emissions during cement production. Fully automated sack production on Starlinger ad*starKon conversion lines is possible.
There are also other important advantages. The bags are well suited for automatic filling and palletizing and the PP coating ensures tightness and avoids leaking of the product. They have adjustable air permeability due to optional micro-perforation which reduces dust formation and protects against humidity (improved shelf life).
Starlinger recycling technology will focus on post-consumer recycling. The PET re-granulate produced on Starlinger lines can be used in applications with direct food contact. The company also offers FDA-approved recycling solutions for the production of food grade re-granulate from post-consumer HDPE packaging such as milk and beverage bottles. The upgrading of post-consumer re-granulates with the above-mentioned technologies makes it possible to close material cycles.
