Sustainable soccer uniforms of 14 nations for the women’s world cup 2019 have been revealed by the sporting goods manufacturer Nike Inc., Beaverton, OR/USA. Plant-based dyes from the Nike plant color collection have been used.
Additionally, each shirt is made from at least 12 plastic bottles thanks to a new recycling material innovation. This aims to continue Nike’s mission for sustainability as they have diverted and up-cycled more than 6 billion plastic bottles from landfills since 2010.
The kits also focus on correct fit for female football. Nike’s sports research lab uses 4D measurement methods and heat-mapping to capture body motion and perspiration, and how these affect the clothing. Also in response to professional players and managers as well, the brand has designed these new uniforms with details such as the preference for V-necks, smaller shorts and larger shirts, and the request for no draw cords, side-seams and super short sleeves.
