The index of orders intake for Italian textile machinery, as compiled by the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers (ACIMIT), Milan/Italy, for the period ranging from July-September 2020 (Q3), decreased by 26% compared to the same period in 2019.
Orders to foreign markets declined by 31%, however an increase of 20% was recorded domestically compared to the Q3/2019.
The ongoing pandemic has hit the Italian textile machinery sector hard since it is traditionally driven by exports of over 80%. The severe restrictions placed on travel, especially abroad, along with uncertainty on the timing of a return to normal business conditions considering Covid-19, strongly affect production activity for the entire industry.
